Absurdity

"the quality or state of being ridiculous or wildly unreasonable"

These are a series of short stories. Short, short stories...

Short Stories: Too Shallow To Go Deep

Danny Devito and Mickey Rooney never played split end in football. You see, those short little legs could never sputter fast enough to go for the deep bomb. They could never get behind the defensive back covering them. Even if they did, they couldn't jump high enough to get above everybody's hands reaching for the ball. That is the same reason that I am writing a collection of short stories.

Oh, I have tried to start the big novel. Several great ideas started with an explosion of excitement, a rush to the keyboard, a maddening flurry of fingers pushing out streams of consciousness onto the printed page. Hours and hours of fantastic plot, curious personalities and surprising twists. Unfortunately, by the time the brain seratonin had finished its course and the climax and resolution had been obtained, there were only 30 typewritten pages.

No, I was no Crichton or Grisham. I was Devito, running for the end zone, just as fast as my little stubs would go, but finding I was only at the 10 yard line with 90 to go. But wait! Maybe I just don't need as many words as those guys. What if they are just too verbose and could have really said it all in half as many words. Just think of the hours saved by all those readers that could have been for something productive, like curing a disease, fighting for world peace…or something like that. Depth is highly over rated.

Thus, I have created this series of short stories. None dare to tread much deeper than a few feet, but they cover a grandiose view of a far stretching coastline. Grab your speedo and jump in, and, when you get out, bring World Peace.
